While shopping for a few items for an upcoming event, I discovered the shop of Nicole Porter Design on Etsy. This talented lady has a housewares line that includes wood, ceramics, and textiles, as well as being a published cookbook author. I just love her simple graphics pared with bright punches of color. 


'In my work, I try to re-imagine familiar furnishings and update them for today’s world. My aspiration is to create quality products that are sourced from American manufacturers.'

Hands down, my very favorite item in the shop is this set of NC napkins! I could seriously plan an entire party and table setting around these colorful linens!

I'm not sure what's re-lit my current antler love. I mean, I have loved using faux deer heads in clients spaces for years. They have been made out of paper mache, some out of twigs, moss, and for kids rooms I have used soft mounts that look like stuffed animals. We do live in the mountains and for the most part, my clients want their rustic cabins to really look like, well, a rustic cabin. {sigh}
I have several twig deer heads that I bring out and light up for Christmas and some smaller cardboard heads that I use year round in the 'man cave'. But, lately I am feeling the desire to get my hands on a {naturally shed} real antler mount. There are loads to choose from when you peruse Etsy and Ebay. But, I want something a little unique. Over the weekend, I visited one of my favorite Etsy stores, Upscale Downhome, and landed on the brand new additions to her shop.     

And I gasped a little.

I have loved the way Sarah has jazzed up her mounts with paint, trim and plaid fabrics. But, now she is embellishing the plaques with vintage paint-by-number canvases {and you know how I feel about these!} I just love these!

At 12:05 am this 11-12-13, my phone heart stopped. I answered and received my 1st birthday wish of the day. My incredibly competitive college girl has always wanted to be the first to grant her birthday wishes, so I should have been expecting it!   

I had no idea that my birthday this year was a consecutively numbered date and that it would be talked about on all of the news reports. Supposedly, getting married on this date is lucky and therefore there will be lots of ceremonies today. In this 'pool of luckiness', could we also throw in all of us that were born on this day??? Please!!!!???? 

In honor of my birthday, I decided it would be fun to do a little my favorite things, Oprah style.

I love the retro pattern on this Boden jersey dress. If you aren't familiar with this company, you should check them out. They have great stuff.

There are so many things I love about these lace up heels-- the perfect caramel colored leather, a little back zipper, a great shaped heel, and the cutest tassels. I see these being worn with everything.  

This knit dress looks so comfy! I love the contrasting sleeve detail and the hem length is perfect.

This artist paints such pretty, simple compositions. I am really drawn to paintings of water, specifically, light interacting with the water. 

I visit this gorgeous dress online at least once a week! I'm not sure this pic really does it justice as the details are just stunning. And, from the comments, it sounds like the fit of this dress has the same mystique as the jeans from 'the sisterhood of the traveling pants'. 

I recently ran out of my DevaCurl Shampoo and tried a knock off brand {it's expensive}. Big mistake. I am going back immediately because it really has made a world of difference in my hair. 

Oh, sequin maxi, I love you so. These are really pricey in retailland, but etsy has a few sellers that custom make them just for your measurements and they are extremely reasonable.   

Matea creates whimsical portraits that are comprised of fun patterns and doodles. They are so happy.  

The fact that Banana makes dresses for tall girls is just awesome. They only sell them online, but take it from me, the fit is spot on. Wrap dresses are so good for those of us lacking in the curves department. And this particular one, worn with a great red necklace, would be perfect to wear to cheer on the Wolfpacks.  

Lordy, I love this statement necklace so!!! The heaviness of the chains combined with the delicate crystals, the brassiness of the colors, the it!!!

There you have it. My 10 favorite things.  

I know, minds are blown.

We have 3 bird nests at our house right now. Two are in the front of the house and one in the back. I wake, every morning, to the early morning chirps of hungry babies. I love to peak in on them and see how big they are getting. Those mama birds are so protective and work so hard to bring worms and extra sticks to pad those little nests.  




I  was thrilled to happen on the sweet colorful art by Angela Moulton of Pratt Creek Art. Her wet-on-wet technique allows a wonderfully loose and layered painting.
