Penguin Threads

Thursday, February 16, 2012

Penguin Books has done it again. This time, with a new collection called Penguin Threads. They are offering 3 classics in covers designed by artist, Jillian Tamaki. She was given the creative task of hand embroidering all 3 covers in just 2 months. The books are sold with sculptural-embossed, full wrap around covers.

I think these are just exquisite. I have studied these images, enlarged them, and studied them some more. I love Jillian's color combinations, the thick details, the tiny knots that comprise Mary's fuschia skirt...and just look at the loose flowing mane of Black Beauty and the tiny little knots and stitches that create his strong body.

How sweet are Emma's multi-colored curls and the twists of her braids..the teeny little pink freckles.

The original classics already live on my bookshelves, but I can not wait to add these to my collection!

{To purchase, please check out your own local bookstore!}

Meeting Grace: Design Sponge

Wednesday, October 26, 2011

Grace visited Asheville yesterday. It was great to see so many locals as excited to

meet her as I was.

She writes one of the most popular design blogs, Design Sponge, in the country and has just

 released a book which is filled with fantastic interiors and some great ‘how-to’ projects.

Malaprops bookstore was filled with folks who joined in on a stamping project

with Grace’s direction.

I have seen Grace on the Nate Show, on her blog and in her ‘how-to’ videos, but

I was surprised at how tiny she is!!

She was so lovely and kind. She signed all of our books and we 'blog talked'.

Go get her book if you haven't already!!

{Thanks Maris for tagging along with mom and snapping pictures!}

Amazing Grace is coming to Asheville!

Thursday, September 29, 2011

Grace Bonney is a superstar blogger. Her blog, Design Sponge is one of THE most popular

 and one of the blogs that I have been following the longest. I preordered her {long awaited} just

released book a while ago and I waited impatiently for it to show up for weeks. When I got back

 from vacation, guess what was waiting for me on my doorstep...

All of the hype is totally justified. This is a fantastic thick book full of the beautiful interiors of folks

 we have come to know through Grace’s blog. But it’s not just featured homes, it also includes the resources of where to buy what is featured, super easy to understand how-to’s which include

 the levels of difficulty and moneys involved in the completion of the how-to’s, flower

arrangements inspired by the featured rooms, before and afters…

I have poured over this book.

If you haven’t bought your own copy, then I highly recommend it. And, if you are more

patient than me, then you can meet me here {in Asheville!} next month, buy it and have

 it signed by Grace herself.

I have my RSVP confirmation! I can’t wait! You can get more info here.

Are any of you guys planning on going??? Let me know!

The Ultimate Guide to Wallpaper

Thursday, August 18, 2011

One of my very favorite places to shop for vintage pieces is Screendoor in Asheville.
After I get through perusing the goods, I spend time in their fabulous bookstore.

They have tons of decorating books. And the best part--their prices are all
 40-50% off the printed book price.

I discovered this hefty {254 pages!} gem.

Notice what it's selling for at other stores?

Inside the front cover, the paper looked really familiar.

It looks like the one Emily Henderson used in the guest bedroom makeover on her HGTV
show a few weeks ago.

{Secrets from a Stylist}

The book traces the history of wallpaper, how to use it to create certain effects, as well as how to hang it.
 It also includes loads of beautifully papered rooms.

It also includes over 150 full-size reproductions of the best contemporary wallpapers.

You best believe Mai Chiang Dragon was included!

I haven't REALLY read it all yet. But, I can not wait to delve into it.
If you need to get some creative juices flowing, I highly recommend it!
