Taking in October

Friday, October 24, 2014

Our leaves have been at peak this week. Driving has become wonderful and dangerous all at once! I strain to absorb all of the shades of golds and reds and oranges that sweep over the distant mountain ranges while at the same time trying to keep the car on the road. It's not easy, ya'll!  With rain and winds, we only have a very few days where the trees are covered in their beautiful rich leaves, so I have been visiting favorite spots this week that offer incredible inspiration.

Whiteside Mountain, Cashiers

Whiteside Mountain, Cashiers

Bear Lake, Tuckaseegee

Bear Lake Reserve - Tucked off the road at the tip top of the mountain, a great little covered campfire spot

Lonesome Valley, Cashiers

The coolest floor made out of cut wood 4x4's.

and because it's Friday....

Oskar Blues Brewery, Brevard, NC

No, this isn't a backdrop for one of my mountain designed weddings
 {although.....}

I'm guessing the conversation was like---'we have all of these empty cans, and a ton of mardi gras beads...we love to recycle...let's make a prom arch over the stairs that leads from the Brewery up to the Tap Room!!!' boom. done. awesome.

Oskar Blues Brewery is a huge Brewery in Brevard. They host tours, music events and craft some great beers. Check them out!

Have a great weekend!

Cashiers Showhouse 2014

Wednesday, July 30, 2014

I haven't told you guys, but I am a designer in this years Cashiers Designer Showhouse that is sponsored by Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles Magazine! woot-woot!

I will be designing a 'Teen Retreat' and I am super excited about the fun stuff I have found {and wait until you see the walls!!!!}. The house opens on August 23rd and ends on the August 31st. If you a regular attendee of the Showhouse, note that this year the house is open for a shorter length of time.

The inside is going to be wonderfully inspiring with the hard work of 23 creative designers and artists. And not to be overshadowed, take a look at God's handiwork through an exterior view from the back of the house!! uh-maze-ing! Thirteen landscapers are just beginning to create some phenomenal plantings and landscaped areas on the sprawling estate.

Once you have walked through the house and the property, make sure to check out the 2 shops featuring 25  {mostly local} boutique owners selling jewelry, antiques, clothing, accessories, books, plants, and more. I always find THE best stuff at the Showhouse shops!

You will definitely want to come hungry, sit overlooking Whiteside Mountain, and enjoy lunch served daily at the Showhouse Cafe from 11:30-1:30. {bring a jacket, it's a bit breezy!}

For more info, check out The Cashiers Historical site or call #828-743-7710. And let me know if you are planning to attend!!

Floral party

Monday, July 07, 2014

Hope you enjoyed your nice long holiday weekend! Friday holidays are simply the best, right? Since we are all in full-time summer mode now, there are probably a few parties and dinner with friends in your future. Speaking of, have you seen the sweet floral party collection at Target that was done in collaboration with one of my favorite blogs, Poppytalk??

These have a great vintage vibe and the price points are insane!!!

I’m talking bright shabby-chic floral patterns, portable patterned cake stands, pink vintage-look plastic flatware, fun glamping equipment, adorable ice cream cups, and even floral marshmallow roasting forks!

And if you are going to be a guest at a party and are need of an awesome hostess gift, I have one for you!!!

I discovered these little blown glass vases at White Rabbit Botanical and fell in love. This makes giving a bottle of wine soooo much more special.

I tried it on several pretty bottles {and if you aren't a wine person, how about hanging it on a liquor bottle...a homemade bottle of oil...be creative! }

There is a small hole near the top that you fill with water and place your flowers in.

And did I mention that they are $8.99 {!!!} Stock up!!

*****Not sponsored, I just like to share my goodies with you guys!*****

Rebecca and Josh got married!

Sunday, June 22, 2014

The nuptials took place early in the warm evening of the last weekend of Spring. Summer Chapel is nestled deep in the woods of Whiteside mountain in Cashiers, NC. This wedding day had been years in the making for Rebecca and Josh, and with a large wedding party and a ton of friends and family that traveled hundreds of miles, we set up overflow seating under a tent right outside the tall, open windows of the original 1917 school house.

I came to know the bride through her aunt {one of my favorite clients and people!} and loved that she selected  beautiful Cashiers, NC, the village where her family vacationed, as her destination wedding spot. This gorgeous area needs little assistance in preparation for a celebration, but I loved creating lots of personal touches in the way of painted signage and menus, custom painted pillows, twig monograms and moss covered flower girl baskets.
After the ceremony, a reception followed at Canyon Kitchen in Lonesome Valley. This picturesque southern Appalachian farmstead, with it's sweeping green meadows, thriving gardens and the sounds of cackling hens throughout the granite walled canyons, is simply the perfect rustic spot for a celebration party. It truly is one of my favorite venues for a wedding celebration.

Rebecca and Josh, it was such an honor to help you plan your special weekend. Your love is a true testament to perseverance, dedication, and devotion.

If you have a wedding or special event coming up, and need a planner who would love to help create your perfect day, Shannon Berrey Design offers event design, creative direction, prop rentals, interior styling, logistical management, vendor curation, photo shoot direction, destination scouting, floral creations, custom painted anything (!) and much, much more! I would love to talk to you!
