Wendy Updegraff's colorful home

Monday, March 31, 2014

With a snowy, rainy weekend behind us, it's so wonderful to have a beautiful sunshiny Monday! The grass needs cutting, the tulips are in full bloom, and the Bradford Pear trees are at their prime. Everything outside is on the verge of so much color. Another place that is bursting with color is the home of my friend, Wendy Updegraff.

Wendy and I met in church. Well, that's not exactly true....I emailed Wendy to tell her how much I loved her photography and the wonderful kids parties that she creates and she was in church when it popped up on her phone  :) That was several years ago. Since then, we have stayed in touch and I continue to admire the talents of this busy, sought after Florida photographer. I have featured her on the blog before here. When I think of Wendy, I think color -- bright, lovely, citrusy color. She shares her home with her husband Mike and their kids, Bella and Preston.

Wendy's family moved into the home 10 years ago. Her newly reupholstered bright pink chairs are new additions to her easy, relaxed living room. When she began her decorating process, she was debating what direction to go with colors. Her sister asked her 'Well, what colors make you happy?' Wendy thought 'Well, of course pink, green, and aqua make me happy but those aren't house colors!' Her sister came back with 'Why not?' 'And now', Wendy states, 'I can honestly say that just being in my house makes me happy!'

I love the subtle tone on tone wide stripes on her living room walls. Pops of blue can be found in almost every room which really creates a sense of unity between all of the main living spaces.  Personal photographs are the best kind of artwork and Wendy's beautiful family photography is hung in every room of her home.

In the mudroom, each family member has their own initial hook under a photo of their feet to store their goods. Below this, is Wendy's dad's childhood bed which she inherited. They didn't have an extra guest room, so Mike cut it down and created a bench.

The Master Bedroom showcases a gallery wall of family vacation photos and loads of pinks and greens.

Thanks for sharing your happy home with us Wendy!! To check out her talents, visit her website. If you are in the Jacksonville, Florida area, you need to book her!!
