I knew that we would hear something...at some point, from The University that is a long 14 hours away from me. The University that has always been the one Maris knew she wanted to attend. But, I simply wasn't prepared to hear this news 4 days after applying. I'm so proud of her, obviously, but the tears that left my eyes that particular day were bittersweet. and abundant.
At the exact same time of the news of this new beginning, we were enjoying some other bittersweet 'lasts'.
Jack can no longer wear a shirt supporting his sister in volleyball. She played her last high school game.
She was honored, along with other Fall athletes, out on the field at the last home football game
For senior nite, our underclassmen players decorated the lockeroom, baked sweet treats, made posters and showered the 5 senior girls with tons of gifts as well as a bouquet of flowers.
Each bouquet was tied with a sweet sentiment. These girls are such good friends.
Throughout her high school volleyball and basketball career, Maris has been fortunate to have been coached by the same great lady, Cindi Simmons.
Maris has been honored to be the captain of her teams and she has learned so much under the advisement of Coach Simmons. Cindi's encouragement in Maris has allowed her confidence to grow, her skills improve, and her leadership flourish. I wanted to do something special for her since she has meant so much to us.
I loved the picture of the two of them on the court, so I used that one as my inspiration.
A little sharpie and a little watercolor...
We didn't have time to be sad...basketball practice started 2 days later..
Enjoy the last bit of your weekend!
