Cotton rugs are such a great accent to so many different design styles. Dash and Albert offers
such a great variety of cotton rugs at affordable prices. The company has only been around
since 2003, but they took the market by storm. Take a look at them in action.

And, cotton rugs are so thin that you can layer them on carpet as well.

They also make these rugs into cute tote bags.
The totes got me thinking about other ways to use a cotton rug.
In this room, I started with some not very attractive x-benches from K-mart.

I painted the legs green, did a little distressing and then glazed them. Then I cut up this rug:
And made slipcovers.

But, I didn't stop there. Nope, I was on some kind of rug roll. I needed a window treatment for
the adjoining bathroom. I had the remainder of the rug made into a roman shade.

It worked beautifully!
This week I got on another 'cut a rug' kick. I found the Striped Cottage Rose at Urban Outfitters
and knew it would work great in front of the shower in my {almost} redone bathroom.
The problem--it only comes in one size--4' x 6'. This was way too big. Ideally, I needed 48" x 30"
due to a vent on my floor. But, I knew it was cotton, so I knew I could customize it.
It also allowed me to have 2 rugs--one in front of the shower and one in front of the vanity. I played with
which parts of the rug I wanted to keep. And then I cut it, zig-zagged the edges {serged edges are ideal
but, my serger is broken :( , ironed a hem and stitched it down.

2 custom rugs for $58. Not too shabby.
Yes, this is the bird bathroom that is still not complete. I am looking for some art, the
'returned for the correct ones' knobs from Anthro, and then I will be ready for the reveal.

Have a wonderful weekend! Go cut up something.
