I know that there are many of you moms out there who own one of these foam play mats.
Although these feel great underfoot, they are not the most sophisticated of color palettes.
And, they certainly don't jive with everyones's decor. Sarah Baltare, of sarah.wandering decided to
customize one of these mats for her niece. Take a look at how great it turned out:
On the smooth side of the mat, she applied 2 coats of primer and then 2 coats of the base color.
With acrylic paints, she freehanded the floral pattern. After sealing the pieces with 2 coats of
poly, it was ready for little feet!

Abbey, at Aesthetic Outburst, saw the post and was inspired to paint her own mat for her sons room.
She primed hers and then painted the chevron stripes with chalkboard paint. Isn't it great?!
And look at the rug that Kim from Art and Cupcake painted for her kitchen:

I love the results that all 3 ladies achieved and I also love the flexibility that these foam pieces
give you as far as size. You can create the rug to be whatever size your room needs by
simply clicking more foam pieces together ! If freehand painting isn't your thing, then there
are plenty of great stencils on the market.
Have you tried this? I'd love to see it!
