I shared with you how to use fabric to create a custom mat here. Today, I wanted to show you another simple way to create a customized mat, this time with ribbon, that is as cute as the custom art it surrounds!
Robert's cousin, Melissa, recently had a baby and I ordered this sweet 8"x10" print from mosieposie.

I bought a frame that came with an 8"x10" white mat.

I could have just popped it in and called it done. But, I knew I wanted to add a little punch.

I found a cute striped ribbon at Wal-Mart that had the same blues and greens in the print.

I cut 2 pieces 10" long and hot glued them across the top and bottom. I used the edge of the mat as my guide.

Then I cut 2 pieces 12" long and glued them down in the middle leaving the edges loose.

I folded in the corner to create a miter, making sure the corners met up, and pressed it with my finger. Using hot glue, I glued it down.

I put the glass back on top.

Much cuter, don't you think?
