A Sneak Peek

Monday, March 14, 2011

Good morning loveies! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. We had amazing
sunny skies that allowed us to open our windows--spring is so close!

If you read this post last week, you know I am redoing the guest bath.
This is what I chose for my inspiration:

I got my sharpies out and went to town.

I have just started adding color to the butterflies and birds

To get to this point has taken a ridiculous amount of hours.... But, I think I can finally see the finish line!!

If I buy you a plane ticket, will you come do that on my bedroom walls? I live in Texas where it's nice and warm; we can visit the Alamo, or the beach......

I am in awe of your talent (and courage). Can't wait to see it finished.

Oh Michelle,it is a tempting offer...but I can pretty much say I will NEVER attempt this design again!!! I now think I would pay the $600 that it would have cost to wallpaper! Holy Cow has this taken longer than I thought it would! But, thank you for the encouragement.
Kristen--thank you!wish I had you here to help me finish!!

You must be crazy! I love it--looks great Shannon.

This is so awesome, Shannon. It would have taken most of us several years to do this with far less magic in the end.

Wow! You are sooooo patient and sooooo talented! I think you'll need a good massage when you're done with that! Absolutely amazing!
kristen davis commented on 14-Mar-2011 09:06 PM
i know what you mean about it taking forever, but it's worth so much more than $600! gigantic work of art! this is so awesome. i came back to look at it again. hahaha.

That is so beautiful! So much work. It's amazing. I knew from your previous post, this is what you had in mind, but it's so well done. All those hours will pay off, everytime you look at it. Your guests will be more than impressed, be sure to tell them all you did it.
DANA commented on 15-Mar-2011 08:06 AM
Oh, my good gollies, What TALENT! Shannon, you have totally out done yourself. You must be so proud of this accomplishment. I am still trying to finish wallpapering my bathroom and then I see this. How many total hours have you actually spent on this project and when did you actually start? Like the others, when I saw the actual wallpaper I knew right away what you were going to do.....Gotta love the Sharpies. you should be an advertisement to them. Well, Way to go and Keep drawing and can't wait for the finished project!!!!!!!
Kristy commented on 15-Mar-2011 04:31 PM

Wikle-wikle--that's the sound of me rubbing my eyes. Am I really seeing what I think I'm seeing? SHANNON! Totally amazing! At least your potty breaks are just a step away. :)

Ridiculous. BEST Post I've seen in a long time. Can I repost? Cause I am about to tweet.
Gloria commented on 16-Mar-2011 09:45 AM
OMG...WOW. This is absolutely amazingly gorgeous. You are nuts. haha

I'm going to have to put a link to this on my FB page if you don't mind.

Wow! How many times did I say Wow? lol

One more...Wow.

jenn--I have actually already had the massage! But, another may be in the near future!
Dana--I haven't kept track of the hours. So far, I woud say more than 20 but less than 40 {?!}
Angela--that's been the great time saver! I have found that if I position the ladder 'just so', then I don't even have to come down to go potty ;)
Claire and Gloria--feel free to repost, but I will have to say that since I have added color, it has changed dramatically!

I am new here and just linking over from Angela and TPH...let me just say that this is seriously the BEST most insanely GORGEOUS diy I have ever seen. That wallpaper has long been one of my absolute favourites and the fact that you just took the bull by
the horn and drew it yourself utterly blows my mind. Ridiculously good- I'm your newest very happy follower:)

Go girl! This looks amazing! God bless you for your patience what were you thinking as you worked? Did you listen to music, sing?
Crystal commented on 20-Apr-2011 09:09 PM
I love it so much that I'm attempting just one branch on my wall... (I have posted the progress, which isn't much, on my blog) How many Sharpies did you have to use? How did you keep the black so dark? Almost immediately, my marker started to be streaky.
I guess it might be from the texture of the wall, but I wouldn't think so since it's pretty smooth with semigloss paint. Seriously, the wallpaper is beautiful!
shannon berrey commented on 20-Apr-2011 10:58 PM
Crystal-I used about 6 Sharpies. I tried to hold it angled down as I drew to help with the ink flow. About half way through, I tried a 'chisel-tip' Sharpie and it worked great!Good luck with your wall!

I came over from the knock off web site because I just had to see this! I am even more blown away than I thought I would be........this is the most amazing DIY project I have ever seen! You are so talented and so brave to have even attempted this! It is
truly spectacular! Thank you for sharing this amazing project! Take care, VBg

BornInaZoo commented on 04-May-2011 09:38 AM
Beautiful work! But I have to ask, have you ever tried to paint over Sharpies? Nightmare!
shannon berrey commented on 04-May-2011 11:40 PM
Thanks for the kind words, guys! I am embarrassed that I have yet to finish this room. Why do we always put ourselves on the bottom of the priority list??? I'm very close but lacking just enough to not feel comfortable in taking the 'after' pictures. soon...
