Jack, Maris and Buddy circa 2000

Update: I just got this image texted to me from one of Maris' friends at school--hanging from her apparent spiderweb in the lockerroom door...ironic, right???

Thank goodness some things never change. Still super and still my hero.

A great idea that didn't happen...

I had a fun DIY that I wanted to tackle over the weekend. I saw these pretty pumpkins over at Terrain that they decorated with ferns and mod podge {2 of my favorite things}.

I asked Robert to grab me a couple of pumpkins when he went to the store yesterday so that I could give this a try.

But, believe it or not, they were sold out {??} so, he stopped by the produce stand close to our house and they were packing up and closing down for the season {???) It was at this point that I decided to consult with my calendar and discovered that Thanksgiving is 3 weeks from Thursday !!!!?? What? When did this happen???

Anyhoo...all of her pumpkins were 1/2 off {happy face} and so he grabbed 4 for less than 10$. But, they were so beautiful, that I couldn't possibly mess with their loveliness. It would be like trying to tell baby Kiko to be cuter...

Yea, not possible...

So, I simply plopped them in my dough bowl and grabbed some leaves and a few lingering hydrangeas from my yard.

Sometimes we just need to leave good enough alone.

The new Dwellings

Friday, October 26, 2012

Last night I was so excited to be invited to the grand opening party of the new Dwellings. Chris McMillan first opened the eclectic store in 2003 and I was a frequent customer of his unique furniture and accessories. He has now taken over a 10,000 square foot space in Biltmore Village and collaborated with 4 like-minded, fabulously creatve friends, and offers a wonderful new home furnishings experience.

My best designer gal pal, Donna, was my date for the evening and we had such fun admiring all of the goods. This is such a great addition to Asheville!

Lost and Foundry offers a fresh new balance of the modern lifestyle, blending vintage, industrial and organic elements.

House Dressing specializes in custom bedding, window treatments, and upholstered furniture with an artful and unique approach of blending color, pattern, and texture. pretty and affordable.

Slab Fab Studio creates contemporary custom furniture with a flair for industrial/repurposed/loft chic. I loved his mirrors.

MIX Vintage offers a fresh collection of beautiful vintage modern interiors including seating, tables, storage, lighting, room accents, textiles and art.

How fantastic is this acrylic table and chairs??

Artist Heather Lewis filled the space with interactive art created by old school projectors with selected items that were available for guests to rearrange on the bed of the projector. Very particular kinds of shadows suited each location--so cool!!

{the DJ was set up in the entrance}

It was such a fun night mingling with other artists and designers. Best of luck to Chris and all of the great artists involved in the new Dwellings!

A whatkatiedid reminder

Wednesday, October 24, 2012

After a crazy day of work yesterday, I came home at just the moment that my streets were lit up by the golden sunset. I remembered a new print I saw, just the day before, by whatkatiedoes. Following its instructions, I grabbed my camera and headed out to capture some of the glow.

Thanks for the reminder Katie! Nature is the best sedative!!

Check out Katies etsy store to purchase this pretty or some of her other prints.
